Surrounded by a compact, enchanted forest, Schloss Freyenstein looks like a fairytale castle. As one of the few castles in Mark Brandenburg, it was built in the remarkable style of the terracotta renaissance. The preserved gable, richly decorated with terracotta, still testifies its former splendor and the Italian Renaissance.

On the foundations of a fortified water castle from the 14th century Conrad von Rohr 1556 had built a dreiflügelige Renaissance castle with three wings. In the 20th century, the castle served as a hotel, accomodation for refugees, school and part of the clothing factory Wittstock. Today it houses the castle library and the office of the Archaeological Park. The Old Town Freyenstein is one of the most important archaeological monuments in Central Europe. The Archaeological Park opens it to the public and represents a monument of medieval settlement history.
