ruin Dahme castle

The ruin of the former magnificent baroque castle is characterized by a unique atmosphere. The splendor of earlier times is still to be perceived.

The palace was built from 1713 – 1715 on the remains of an old water castle from the 12th century. After the city had sold it 1940 to the state, it was to be converted into a police school.

After these had to be canceled, the castle was left to decay.

Only with the new millennium finally began a comprehensive renovation process. Instead of reconstructing the former baroque palace, it was decided to include the castle ruins as a monument in the historic city center. This inclusion of the ruin in the townscape, this active return to the eventful history of the city, is of great importance for the self-image of the city and is absolutely worth a visit.

Dahme is justly one of the 31 cities of the working group “Cities with historical city centers of the country Brandenburg”. The entire city is a unique landmark with the town church, the remains of the city walls and the neo-renaissance style- town hall.
